Chappell Roan cancelled from performing in Rio concert after hotel mishap

The Todo Mundo No Rio Festival is one of the largest international festivals for music artists. Artists have the potential to make millions of dollars from this performance, and Chappell is now officially cancelled from performing in it.

In March 2026, Chappell was staying at the Palácio Tangará Hotel in São Paulo, Brazil, as was the famous soccer player Jorge Frello, also known as Jorginho, along with his wife, Catherine Harding, and daughter, Ada. Ada is a huge fan of Chappell Roan, especially after her music career took off in 2023. Catherine and Ada went down to have breakfast when they noticed the music star sitting at a table, eating as well. Ada decided to double-check if it was really Chappell by simply walking by and then back to her table. On the way back, Ada gave a small smile to Chappell. The next thing you know, one of her security guards walked over to their table and was being aggressive towards Catherine and Ada. Accusing them of “harassing” and “disrespecting” the musician, he also claimed he was going to report them to the hotel. This then left Ada in tears. 


After Frello found out about this, he took it to social media, saying the guard was “aggressive” and was “disproportionate” to the situation at hand. The post went viral, and people started giving Roan backlash. It got to the point where Eduardo Cavaliere, the mayor of Rio De Janeiro, cancelled Roan from playing at the Todo Mundo No Rio Festival. After this news came out, Roan took to Instagram as well and posted a story stating her side of the story.

In her response video, she claimed that she never sent any security guard and that it is “unfair” for the mother and child to be treated like that when “They were doing nothing”. She even went on to say that she didn't see the family eating breakfast that morning with her. The most important thing that stuck out to people was when she mentioned that the security guard was not somebody from her team. Many people were confused as to why this security guard would go up defending her if he wasn't even working for her. Soon after her response, it was finally time for the security guard to say his side. Pascal Duvier made a post on Instagram confirming he was not a part of her team. “I take full responsibility for the interactions on March 21st,” He continued to explain that his outburst was due to previous interactions at the hotel. "I made a judgment call based on information we obtained from the hotel, events I had witnessed in the days prior, and the heightened overall security risk of our location." In the end, he said that “...the outcome of the encounter is regretful….”

Fan responses to the mishap were very mixed. Many people believed that it was truly the security guard's fault, and he was just being aggressive, while many others said that “he was paid to say that.” It's been rumoured for a while that Roan “hates her fans” as she is seen in multiple videos ignoring or even being mean to some. So having a guard yell at her fan didn't seem that far off for many people. Once the guard said he wasn't even connected to Roan, people assumed he got paid or pressured to say that.  Memes had ended up being created around the idea that Roan now hates children. 


In the end, the mayor, Eduardo Cavaliere, still banned her after hearing about the situation, stating that she is “not welcomed” and that she is not allowed to perform there during the rest of his term.
