After breaking the North American box office with 80.6 million dollars in the first weekend, Project Hail Mary hit a milestone for Amazon MGM Studios, setting a new record for the company and surpassing the previous high set by Creed III. This movie has brought thousands of fans back to the theaters, with enthusiastic reactions, as it is ranked at a 95% on Rotten Tomatoes. Project Hail Mary has grabbed everybody's attention, and thus it has put the spotlight back on the hit song that was originally not going to be used in it.
Harry Styles song “Sign of the Times” has blown up again since being used in the film. Back when this song first came out in 2017, it hit the charts at number 4 in the top 100 back in 2017 and crashed in at No. 1 on the Billboard + Twitter Top Tracks. Since being in the film, it has once again hit number 5 on the global charts, even almost a decade later.

Project Hail Mary was adapted from the novel written by Andy Weir. It is centered around a last-ditch effort to save Earth's dimming sun from a microorganism that has never been seen before. Leading up to the mission launch, an emotional scene takes place where the crew gets together to celebrate and say their goodbyes to the space crew.
What makes this all so interesting is that there was never any intent to put this song in the movie. The directors initially considered adding a karaoke scene to the movie, as they felt the storyline needed a calm before the storm. One of the characters, played by actress Sandra Hüller, was the business-forward director of the entire project. She ended up stepping to sing karaoke, which was far off for her character, while still figuring out the scene. She claims she was looking for a “goodbye song” and happened to start singing “Sign of the Times.” The directors found it very fitting and decided to keep it. Now, thousands of people are posting edits or content surrounding the film, with this song being used. Making it top the charts once again.
